LACASSINE – Kane Broussard had a career-high Tuesday to lead Lacassine to a 94-78 win over Reeves in a wild 3-point shootout at Lacassine High School.

The 6-4 senior set career-high marks for points (43) and 3-pointers (10), while the teams combined for 36 3-pointers. Reeves’ Carter Guillory also had a big night from beyond the arc with eight threes and 24 points, and Christian Williams had 20 points with six 3-pointers.

Broussard had five 3-pointers at halftime and doubled that with five more in the third quarter as the Cardinals (18-1) won their 18th consecutive game.

“He just found his rhythm early,” Lacassine head coach Micah Rasberry said. “He had a couple of heat checks, and I think he started shooting with confidence after he saw those go in.

“But going back and forth there for a while with 42, it was fun. I think the game was played at a pace that we liked, so we were able to shoot it a lot. It just so happened we had a guy who was able to knock some down.”

The Cardinals hot 36.6 (15 of 41) from three-point range while the Raiders shot an impressive 50 percent (21 of 42) and 45 field goal percentage.

Reeves (13-6) fell behind 4-0 quickly in the first quarter but used three 3-pointers to take its first lead, 9-6, on one of Guillory’s threes. Hakeem Jenkins scored the Raiders’ only points of the game off an offensive board for an 11-9 lead. Reeves held an early rebound advantage, but the Cardinals dominated the boards most of the game and out outrebounded the Raiders 36-27 and scored 23 points on offensive rebounds, including Kane Broussard’s game-tying bucket with 3:34 left in the first quarter.

“I think we were down on the boards after the first time out,” Rasberry said. “They do a really good job of boxing out.

“We’re bigger than them in some spots, but they battle hard for rebounds. I think that’s the stat that we attacked after the first time out. I think we were able to win the boards pretty big.”

Mason Granger’s three right before the end of the first quarter pulled the Raiders within seven points, and Ethan Fondon made a three with 4:15 left in the second quarter to cut the Cardinals’ lead to 35-29, but the Cardinals used a 12-0 run to break the game open and led 53-34 at halftime.

Maliki Broussard scored 19 points for Lacassine.
