It’s official, Walker Timme is coming to Lake Charles.

The 6-foot-8 power forward out of Richardson, Texas signed to play next year at McNeese State for head coach John Aiken. Timme is a 2-star from Link Year Preparatory School. Before that he was a star at his home town high school.

He is the younger brother of Gonzaga star Drew Timme, who has been a big part of the Zags success of late and recently announced he was headed to the NBA.

Walker Timme verbally committed Saturday to the Cowboys.

“This is a real steal for us,” said Aiken. “He kind of got lost his senior year with COVID and nobody went out and saw him. He is a very skilled player and the last year at prep school is a big bonus for him.”

Last season the younger Timme averaged 12.8, 8.1 rebounds and 4.6 assists a gam. He also had just over one blocked shot a game.

He finished shooting 56 percent from the field and 41 percent from 3-point range.

Link Hoops called Walker Time a “gym rat, coachable, highly skilled and phenomenal human being. Elite footwork, elite passing out of the post. He can stretch the floor and has an extremely soft touch around the rim.”

“He can really pass out of the post and is really the modern type of big man,” said Aiken.

Time added to a solid recruiting class. Last week McNeese signed 6-foot-8, 218-pound Dionjahe Thomas from the Legacy School in Spring, Texas. He is a 3-start recruit who started his prep career at Ellender High in Houma.

Thomas averaged 16.4 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.3 blocked shots a game last season.

Timme, who is working out with his brother currently and with other NBA hopefuls, has given the McNeese program a boost on social media sites.

“We have never gotten so many pops on social media since I have been here,” said Aiken. “It’s great to get this much attention.”
