Herbert Olivier Jr. (also called Junior or Herb by his family and friends to include being called Darling by his wife) was born on June 28, 1955 in Temple, Texas. He passed peacefully through Christ our Savior and the Most High God to the Heavenly realm on May 15, 2024. He will be missed by family, friends, and many others. He accepted Christ and was baptized in the late 1970’s at Starlight Missionary Baptist Church by Rev. J.B. Wilson.
He was preceded in his departure by his parents, Herbert and Dorothy Olivier, and his sister, Sharon.
His growing up took him from Texas, Louisiana, Germany, California, Maryland, and finally back to Louisiana.
After graduating from DeRidder High in May 1974, he enlisted into the United States Army in August 1975. Upon completion of five years of honorable military service, Herbert and Brenda Smith were joined in matrimony in 1980 by her Uncle Luther D. Smith and he went on to finish his last year of active duty. He then began employment with Reliance Press for 10 years before moving on to DeRidder Office Repair for one year. Then he went on to International Paper for two years, before moving on to his last place of employment with Ingevity (Mead Westvaco) which led to his retirement after 22 plus years.
Before and after leaving the workforce, Herbert enjoyed fishing, cooking, bowling, traveling to include cruising, family gatherings, watching YouTube sermons, reading the Bible, researching his American (Indigenous) heritage and most recently gardening.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Brenda Olivier of DeRidder, La.; one Godson, Kenterius Veasy of Fort Worth, Texas; his five sisters, Wanda (Jessie) Husband of DeRidder, La., Beverly (Chester) Thompson of DeRidder, La., Shirley (Anthony Sr.) Marlbrough of Houston, Texas, Glenda (deceased, Charles) Ford of New Llano, La., and Tracey Olivier of Dallas, Texas; brothers-in-law, Tommy (Shirley) Rigmaiden of Grand Prairie, Texas, Paul O’ Banion of Houston, Texas; sisters-in-law, Kathy (Larry) Taylor of DeRidder, La., Marie (William) Veasy, Alisha (Eric) Bolden, Beverly O’Banion, all of Arlington, Texas, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024 from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. at Starlight Missionary Baptist Church in DeRidder, La. Reverend Daniel Stafford will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder, La.
