Donald “Don” Lee Soileau

Donald Lee Soileau, 88, passed away peacefully at home on May 6, 2024. He was born Feb. 21, 1936, in Washington, La., to Joseph Lee and Enola LaFleur Soileau. After graduating high school, Don enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and became a radio intercept officer, ultimately earning the rank of Airman First Class.
After his honorable discharge from active duty in 1958, he attended and graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana. He met his wife, Liz, while he was attending college, and they married in 1963. Don ultimately became a career insurance adjuster over the next 40 years until his retirement in 2007. He thoroughly enjoyed his time with family and cheering on the Saints, the Astros, the McNeese Cowboys, and the LSU Tigers.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Elizabeth Soileau; his daughter, Kristy Suarez (Robert); his son, Cary Soileau; his brother, James Soileau (Vesta); his grandchildren, Ryan and Ross Denison, and his step-grandchildren, Raygan and Kathryn Suarez. Don was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Allen Soileau.
The family would like to thank the staff of Harbor Hospice and Dr. Michael Broussard.
His funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024, in the Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles Chapel, located at 4321 Lake Street. Father Paul Jessen will officiate. Inurnment will follow in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the start of the service at 1 p.m.
