Ella Mae Adkins Williams was born Aug. 9, 1929 in Mt. Vernon, Ala. to John Henry and Lillie Files Adkins. A native of Mt. Vernon, she resided in Lake Charles for the past 70 years. Mother Williams met in Alabama, and married the love of her life, the late Charlie Williams Jr., on Nov. 2, 1946, and they moved to Lake Charles in 1954. To this union three sons and one daughter were born. She was a faithful member of Greater Freeman COGIC, Pastor Darnold Catlon, until her health began to fail. Affectionately known as “GRANNY” to many, Mother Williams had an infectious spirit that many longed to be around her. She allowed many individuals to live in her home, to whom she mothered, ministered to, and impacted each of them. All that knew her, knew her to be one that stood bold and firm on what she believed, according to the Word of God. She will be greatly missed. She departed this life Saturday, April 6, 2024, surrounded by her family. She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Missionary Valerie (James) Jenkins; three sons, Elder Denny (Crystal) Williams Sr., Pastor Charlie (Janise) Williams III, and Deacon Rodney (Mary) Williams Sr.; godchildren, Pastor Dwayne Guillory and Mildred Pugh Patrick; 20 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years; her parents; a niece she reared as a daughter, Minister Althea Flott Dunning; one great- granddaughter, Darrelyn Bennett; six sisters and nine brothers. Her visitation will be Friday, April 19, 2024, from 9 a.m., with crowning ceremony at 10:55 a.m., and funeral following at 11 a.m., at Word of Hope Worship Center located at 3975 East Prien Lake Road in Lake Charles. Bishop James Proctor will officiate and Pastor Charlie Williams III will perform the committal. Burial will be in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of James Funeral Home.
