What is the most interesting football game involving a 1A or 2A team?
WA: East Beauregard at Grand Lake, Thursday. Passes will be few and far between in this battle of old-school squads. The Trojans feature one of the area’s leading rushers in Kane Atkinson (1,536 yards, 21 TDs) while the Hornets boast one of the area’s top defenses (11 ppg).
RA: Oberlin at Basile, Friday. Basile has already secured a home playoff game and can win a share of the District 4-1A title with a win. The game also has high stakes for Oberlin, who needs a win to get a firstround home game. The Tigers will have to slow down Basile’s Ethan Bazinet, who has run for 552 yards and 12 touchdowns in his last four games. Basile has won four of the last six games in the series.
Name a player to watch.
WA: Merryville’s Cam’ron Williams has excelled for four seasons and plays his final regular season game Thursday vs. Hamilton Christian at LaGrange. Williams has run for more than 4,600 yards in his career and led the Panthers to an upset win over Oberlin last week with 138 yards and a touchdown.
RA: DeQuincy’s Taije Ceasar has cracked 100 rushing yards in four consecutive games with 662 yards and nine touchdowns in that span. DeQuincy is 3-1 when Ceasar breaks the century mark and will need everything they can get Friday to keep pace with Rosepine who averages 49.2 points games.
What is the best first round volleyball game involving an area school?
WA: LaGrange closed the regular season with 7 wins in 10 matches and travels to face No. 11 Lakeshore, which is under .500 for the season at 12-16. An upset could be in the cards.
RA: Comeaux at Sulphur, Wednesday. The Tors draw a tough rematch in the first round with district foe Comeaux. The Tors swept the Spartans in three sets three weeks ago as part of a threegame win streak but have lost six of their last seven.
