Sanford Mark Fontenot, 69, of Lake Charles passed away
Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020 in a care center in Welsh, La.
Mr. Fontenot was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles. He attended Lake Charles High School. He began his working career at the age of eight as a paper boy. He worked many years for
Lake Charles Rubber and Gasket where he honed his skill of trade. Mr. Fontenot then successfully owned and operated his own business, Fontenot’s Splicing Service until retiring. His greatest times were often spent fishing on Lake Vernon and Toledo
Bend but most often you could find him on the Calcasieu River. A true partner in life, he was a proud father, and enjoyed sharing his time at home with his wife. They enjoyed gardening together, yard work, evenings outside drinking coffee while
watching the birds and their dogs.
Mr. Fontenot never met a stranger, he will be remembered for his sense of humor, making others laugh, and waking early, even on his days off; he worked hard and always enjoyed keeping busy as there was
always something he needed to get done.
He leaves to honor his memory, his loving wife of 52 years, Merry Hamann Fontenot of Lake Charles; two sons, Sanford “Mark” Fontenot, Jr. and wife Charlotte and Dana Paul Fontenot and wife Amy, both
of Lake Charles; one daughter, Elizabeth “Cory” Fontenot Dyke and husband Seth of Ragley; five grandchildren, Caitlyn, Jesse, Taylor, Emilee and Ethan Fontenot; one brother, Dale Fontenot and wife Helen of Lake Charles; two sisters, Arlene Fontenot
of Lake Charles and Myrtle DesOrmeaux of Delaware as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Christian Fontenot; parents, Lester and Zula Benoit Fontenot, and one sister, Virgil Borel. He was also
preceded by two of his favorite people, his father-in-law, Melvin Hamann and mother-in-law, Eleanor Hamann.
