Jennings man accused of raping 79-year-old

A Jennings man has been taken into custody following allegations of dragging an elderly woman into a bathroom and raping her.
According to the Jennings Police Department, Christopher “Elmo” Istre, 39, is accused of assaulting a 79-year-old woman on Saturday in a residence in the 500 block of Merry Street before fleeing the residence.
The victim told police she had been pulled by her hair into the bathroom and sexually assaulted.
Authorities were alerted to the possibility that Istre was walking on La. 26, just north of Jennings. Officers later located Istre walking along La. 26 near the I-10 park.
Istre was booked in the Jeff Davis Parish Jail on charges on first-degree rape, cruelty to the infirmed and sexual battery.
He remains in jail on a $450,000 bond.
