Interstate 10 in Calcasieu Parish is being closed and vehicles diverted to Interstate 210 due to a warehouse fire at the BioLab facility in Westlake.

Louisiana State Police Trooper Matt Gaspard said a precautionary shelter in place has also been expanded due to a shift in the wind direction. The shelter in place has now been expanded to a half-mile radius from the facility.

A BioLab spokesperson said the company is “actively investigating the origin of smoke emanating from the facility.”

“All of our employees are accounted for with no injuries reported,” the spokesperson said. “As always, the safety and well-being of our community in Lake Charles remains of the utmost importance, and we have deployed our own specialized experts onsite to work cooperatively with first responders and local authorities in order to address the incident.”
