Former Lake Charles Police Department Deputy Chief Franklin Fondel announced his retirement from the department on Monday.
Fondel began his law enforcement career on Feb. 18, 1998, with the LCPD as a patrol officer. In 2019, he took on the helm of deputy chief over the investigation bureau.
A majority of his 26-year career was spent in the investigation division, placing him “at the forefront of bringing closure to families when they are facing the most difficult of circumstances, a responsibility he has never taken lightly,” according to a LCPD release.
On Monday, Fondel also announced he will begin his tenure with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday.
In January, CPSO Sheriff-elect Stitch Guillory announced his command staff. Fondel was tapped as one of the three assistant chief deputies under Guillory’s command. He will take on the role of assistant chief deputy of enforcement and investigations.
In the release, Fondel reflected on his past, present and future career.
“After 26 years it has never gotten any easier to meet families in the midst of tragedy,” Fondel said. “Knowing that I’ve been a part of a team that has dedicated every resource available to bringing closure to these families, to producing the type of investigations that result in convictions and ultimately justice for these families, is something I am extremely proud of. I remain overwhelmed and humbled by the support I have received throughout my career, especially these past five years as deputy chief.
“I am thankful to have had the opportunity to serve alongside the men and women of the Lake Charles Police Department,” he said. “I am honored and look forward to continuing my service in the law enforcement profession and to the residents of Calcasieu Parish as assistant chief deputy for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.”
