A Molo Middle School student who brought a loaded gun to school Friday morning has been arrested.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kayla Vincent said the office’s school resource officers were notified at about 8:20 a.m. of a student who may be in possession of a handgun.

The gun, with one round in the chamber, was located in a 15-year-old’s backpack. Vincent said at no time did the student make threats regarding the gun in his possession.

The teen was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a firearm in a school zone; and illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile.  He was booked into the Juvenile Detention Center.

The Calcasieu Parish School Board assisted with the investigation.
