ESTHER WOOD – A Jennings man was killed Tuesday and another person injured after a vehicle traveled into the path of an SUV just north of Estherwood.
Louisiana State Police Troop I Public Information Officer Thomas Gossen said troopers responded to the two-vehicle head-on crash shortly after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday on La. 91, south of Clement Road in Acadia Parish.
A preliminary investigation revealed a 2017 Lincoln Continental driven by 67-year-old Thomas “Tommy” Harelson of Jennings was traveling north on La. 91 when he crossed the centerline in a curve, resulting in a head-on collision with a southbound 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe.
Harelson was not restrained and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office, Gossen said in a press release.
The driver of the Tahoe, who was not named, was also unrestrained and transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
Impairment is unknown and toxicology results are pending, Gossen said.
The crash remains under investigation.
Troop I has investigated 56 fatal crashes resulting in 61 deaths in 2023.
