A 3-year-old child was airlifted out of Lake Charles last night to undergo emergency surgery for multiple serious injuries.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kayla Vincent said the injuries are a result of suspected child abuse.

She said Anastaga A. Leger, 22, and Ricky J. Hebert III, 21, both of Lake Charles, have been charged with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile. Their bonds have not yet been set.

The investigation is continuing and the extent of the child’s injuries is unknown at this time, Vincent said.

The victim along with another child were placed in state custody by the Department of Children & Family Services.
