A Lake Charles man has been arrested in a pair of mobile home fires — one of which had two people inside at the time of the attack.

Louisiana State Fire Marshal Public Affairs Director Ashley Rodrigue said Rodney Hill, 44, was arrested Friday and charged with one count each of aggravated arson and simple arson.

Rodrigue said in the early evening hours of Dec. 30 Calcasieu Parish Ward 8 Fire District No. 2 responded to a report of a mobile home fire in the 2400 block of La. 397 in Lake Charles.

“Firefighters arrived to find no active fire, but two mobile homes with fire damage,” Rodrigue said. “A resident who escaped one of the mobile homes had already extinguished fires at both exit doors with a hose while the other mobile home fire, also located on the exterior, burned out before the fire department’s arrival.”

Rodrigue said no one was injured.

She said after collecting witness statements, deputies determined the fires were connected and intentionally set.

In collaboration with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office, Hill was identified as the suspect in the case. Hill, who was already in custody for additional crimes related to the fires, was then booked in connection with the fires.
