Money set aside for 22 ‘favored projects’ in SW La.

Southwest Louisiana has 22 local projects that are funded in a supplemental appropriations bill (House Bill 592) approved by the House Appropriations Committee and the full House.
Republican Reps. Dewith Carrier of Oakdale, Brett Geymann of Moss Bluff and Troy Romero of Jennings are members of the appropriations committee.
Those three lawmakers represent parts of Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, and Jeff Davis parishes that have what used to be called “pet projects” in the legislation. They are now called “favored local projects.
The full House approval moves the bill to the Senate and it could be changed during its trek through the Legislature.
The Beauregard Parish School Board would receive $500,000 for an oxidation pond at South Beauregard High School. The Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office would receive $126,000 for emergency repairs to the jail.
Westlake would receive $125,000 for Garfield Street drainage improvements. Beauregard Parish would receive $125,000 for improvements to Magnolia Church Road.
The Jeff Davis Parish Police Jury would receive $50,000 for recreational improvements. Oberlin would receive $50,000 for equipment for the town sanitation.
Oakdale would receive $50,000 for improvements to the courthouse building. DeQuincy would receive $50,000 for equipment for the fire department.
Iowa, Welsh, Lake Arthur, Elton and Jennings would receive $30,000 each for police expenses and recreational improvements.
Oberlin would receive $25,000 for improvements to the town park. The Oakdale Police Department would receive $25,000 for equipment. Oakdale Dixie Youth Inc. would receive $25,000 for renovations and improvements to recreation facilities.

Allen Parish would receive $15,000 for repairs and improvements.
Fenton would receive $10,000 for police expenses.
The Calcasieu Parish Ward 2 Fire District would receive $10,000 for operating expenses. And the Calcasieu Parish LeBleu Settlement Volunteer Fire Department would receive $10,000 for operating expenses.
The Allen Parish Police Jury would receive $5,000 for the community center.
