Golf dog fight to support cancer battle

There was a wave of purple showing during a recent tournament at Mallard Cove.

The event was the Billy LaRocca par-3 super dog fight and the color purple on clothing that contestants were wearing was to raise awareness for pancreatic cancer, which Billy is now battling.

He’s a longtime golfer and participant in the weekly dog fights at the course, having started when they were played at Pine Shadows.

For this dog fight, each of Mallard’s 18 holes were set up as par-3s.

The team of David Martin, Brock Smith, Thomas Schexnider and Roy Murphy took top honors with a 7-under-par total. Bill Stevens, Ricky Norwood, Tony Colletta and Marion Landry shot 5-under and finished second while Mason James, Clyde Langley, Jim Abrams and Brian LeLeaux also posted a 5-under score and finished third (scorecard playoff).
