Police: Monday shooting stemmed from argument

A 32-year-old man has been arrested in a Monday afternoon shooting that occurred in the 1000 block of North Martin Luther King Highway.

Lake Charles Police Deputy Chief Franklin Fondel said the victim and Jeremiah Shawte Spillman were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical altercation that eventually led to the Spillman shooting the victim.

After the shooting, Spillman fled the area on foot, Fondel said.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, he said.

Spillman was located Tuesday and charged him with one count of aggravated battery and one count of obstruction of justice. Judge Tony Fazzio set bond at $85,000.

Anyone with additional information is asked to call Sgts. Willie Fontenot and Larry Newingham at 491-1311.
