BREAKING: Westlake mayor dies

Westlake Mayor Bob Hardey has died.

“Our family is praying for the Hardey family on the loss of Bob Hardey,” said Westlake City Councilman Michael Bergeron in a Facebook posting announcing the news. “We pray that God’s peace and comfort be with yall always.”

Hardey died at  6:25 a.m. this morning at home surrounded by his family.

“Always do the right thing for the right reason” was one of his favorite sayings, said City Clerk Andrea Mahfouz. “As we move forward, the city will continue to ‘do the right thing for the right reasons’ and continue to work hard for our city.”

A special meeting will be held in the next few days to appoint an interim mayor, Mahfouz said.

Until that time, Daniel W. Racca, Mayor Pro-Tempore will continue to as acting mayor.

“We ask for your continued prayers for his family, friends, and the city of Westlake. Bob was a great leader and will be missed,” she said.
