U.S. 190 resurfacing project continues

Despite the COVID-19 public emergency, state Department of Transportation and Development crews are continuing to make progress on the U.S. 190 resurfacing project in Beauregard Parish.

DOTD officials announced Thursday that crews have completed milling work and the first layer of asphalt has been laid from La. 111 to US 171. Contractors are now installing shoulders and laying the final layer of asphalt.

Work that still remains to begin includes re-striping, installing rumble strips and reconnecting permitted driveways.

In an effort to decrease congestion during the re-striping phase, officials said the center lane will be extended from Cardinal Street to Planer Mill Road, and the westbound right turn lane at Boise Road will be lengthened.

Through the remaining work, intermittent lane closures will continue in both directions, and motorists are advised to be watchful for and obey flaggers directing traffic in the work areas.

The $6 million project to resurface 12.5 miles of U.S. 190 began in January, and according to officials is still on track to make its expected completion in the fall of this year. Officials warn the completion will be dependent upon weather conditions as work moves forward.Road work ahead stock
