New Orleans museum has big plans for city’s tricentennial
NEW ORLEANS — Bear-paw moccasins stitched together in the 1700s by Native Americans and pieces of pottery from the 1400s will be part of an exhibit about New Orleans’ early decades for the city’s tricentennial next year.
They’re among dozens of objects lent by museums around North America and the world for the free exhibit opening Feb. 27 at The Historic New Orleans Collection.
Officials described the museum’s tricentennial plans Monday.
The museum and the city will hold a four-day symposium about the evolution of New Orleans’ diverse population and the importance of home in its life and culture.
The museum also will open a third building with the largest exhibit space it’s ever had in fall 2018, with an inaugural exhibit titled “Art of the City: Postmodern to Post-Katrina.”
