UPDATE: Attempted First Degree Murder Arrests

UPDATE

On Tuesday September 25th, 2018, Lake Charles Police Department Detective’s learned that an individual identified as, Kai Carriere-Richard, had direct involvement in the August 25th, 2018 robbery and shooting which took place in the 3500 block of McKinley Street. 

After further investigation, Detective John Russell prepared an arrest warrant for Kai Carriere-Richard on Thursday October 11th, 2018.  Judge Wyatt signed the warrant for the charge of Attempted First Degree Murder and set the bond amount at $200,000. 

Members of the Lake Charles Police Department SWAT team located and arrested Kai Carriere-Richard within hours.  He was transported to Calcasieu Correctional Center for processing and confinement.  

Arrested:  Kai Carriere-Richard, Black Male, 18 years of age of 1910 South Borel, Lake Charles, LA

Charge:  Attempted 1st Degree Murder – Bond $200,000

Attempted First Degree Murder Arrests

On Saturday, August 25, 2018, at approximately 2:30 A.M., the Lake Charles Police Department responded to the 3500 block of McKinley in reference to a home invasion with shots fired. Upon arrival Officers learned two male victims had been shot and brought to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

 Further investigation revealed two suspects were armed with handguns when they forced their way into the residence to steal money and personal effects.  When the victims resisted the robbery, they were both shot. 

On September 25, 2018, Detectives learned that Deonta Wheeler and Russell Gordon were responsible for the robbery and shooting.  Detective Russell prepared arrests warrants for both suspects and submitted them to Judge Davis. 

Judge Davis signed both warrants for Attempted First Degree Murder with bonds of $750,000 each.  Members of the LCPD SWAT team located and arrested Deonta Wheeler within minutes of securing the warrant.

Gordon was located and arrested in Tarrant County, Texas later that same day and is awaiting extradition. 

Further arrests may be forthcoming.
