Broncos and bounce-back Bulldogs

In this edition of the Three Point Stance, staff writers Rodrick Anderson and Warren Arceneaux review Week 4 of the high school football season.

Which team had the biggest win?

RA: Sam Houston. The Broncos have a long history of struggling against Sulphur, but they dominated Friday to win 28-19 for their first 4-0 start since 2014. Sam Houston’s offense cracked 500 yards for the third time and the defense came up with six sacks, forcing two fumbles.

WA: Jennings. The Bulldogs have won two games in a row after starting with two losses, this time coming from behind to beat Iowa in their District 4-3A opener. The Bulldogs have good momentum going into next week’s game at suddenly hot Washington-Marion.

Who was the small schools player of the week?

RA: South Cameron wide receiver Kyler Little. The sophomore played a big role in the Tarpons’ 41-26 win over Hamilton Christian on Thursday that ended a 13-game losing streak. He caught six passes for 110 yards and three touchdowns, including a 9-yard score that put the Tarpons in the lead for good late in the third quarter. He also had a tackle for a loss and interception.

WA: I will go with the East Beauregard trio of Brycelyn Murphy, Devin Perkins and Konner Seal who combined for 307 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Trojans to a comeback win over North Caddo. The Trojans scored the game’s last 38 points after surrendering the first 22.

Who was big schools player of the week?

RA: Sam Houston running back Gerron Duhon. There seems to be no stopping Duhon. For the second consecutive week he touched the ball more than 25 times and broke 260 rushing yards. He finished with 261 yards and two touchdowns on 36 carries and caught a 40-yard pass.

WA: Lake Charles College Prep linebacker Dylan Vincent led the team in tackles against Westlake and put some points on the board, recovering a fumble in the end zone. The Trailblazers are 4-0 on the season with two road wins and two wins over 4A schools.
