2-year-old found in swimming pool is in critical condition

PONCHATOULA — Authorities say a two-year-old who was found unresponsive in a swimming pool is in critical condition.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports the child was found in a swimming pool Saturday. The name and gender of the child have not been released.

Ponchatoula police and medical personnel received an emergency call about the unresponsive child at 3:39 p.m. First responders were able to restore the child’s heartbeat, but the victim remains in critical condition at a local hospital.

Police Chief Bry Layrisson said in a statement that the incident is tragic and being handled with great care.

Police say the incident is under investigation and no further details will be release at this time.
