How to make snow ice cream with the freshly fallen SW La. snow
Snow ice cream is a fun treat to make when children are out of school for a snow day. And since schools are closed again Thursday and there’s still snow on the ground, now is the time to take advantage of this fun recipe.
To make snow ice cream, you need four ingredients: snow, vanilla, sugar and milk.
All day Tuesday, my children played in the front yard. Since the backyard was untouched I put on my boots Wednesday and headed to their trampoline, which remained blanketed in an untouched layer of snow.
With a measuring cup, I ladled eight cups of snow from the top layer of the powder into a large plastic bowl. Once back inside, I poured in 1 cup of milk, 1 tsp of vanilla and 1/2 cup of sugar. Then I stirred like crazy.
The trick is to combine the milky mixture until you get a thick milkshake-like consistency (if it starts looking like soupy mashed potatoes, stop stirring).
Then eat it fast before it melts.
You can also have fun with it by adding additions like cocoa powder, sprinkles or fruit.
