Sax in the City series kicks off in Sulphur

The Sax in the City Series kicks off at 7 p.m. today, May 11, at The Mines Sulphur Community Theatre, with Huber “Mickey” Smith Jr. performing and a catered meal being served.

Smith, a Grammy-nominated saxophonist and music educator, is one of jazz’s most passionate ambassadors and has created each show in the series.

Meal choices for the event include a Cornish hen entree or an entree of crawfish fettuccine.

Patrons must be 21 years of age or older to attend the show.

The series continues with performances scheduled for June 10 and July 15.

Tickets are $50 per person and must be purchased in advance. They are available by visiting www.theminestheatre.com and clicking on “tickets.”

Those who don’t want the dining option and just want to see the concert can purchase tickets at the door for $25 per person.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Musicmakers2U, a nonprofit organization that accepts donations of musical instruments, refurbishes them and donates them to area students.
