La. Choral Foundation Masterworks Chorale opening 42nd season

<div class="Content"><p class="indent">The Louisiana Choral Foundation Masterworks Chorale will open its 42nd Season with “Luminous Night of the Soul” in the sanctuary of University United Methodist Church of Lake Charles on Friday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 21 at 3 p.m. The concert will feature four major works which are all “inspiriational in nature” said Darryl Jones, artistic director.</p><p class="indent">“Luminous Night of the Soul” will open with “Gitanjali Chants” by Craig Hella-Johnson. “Gitanjali Chants” features the poetry of 1913 Nobel Prize in Literature winner Rabindranath Tagore. Johnson’s arrangement was written originally for award winning chorale troupe “Conspirare” based in Texas, said Jones.</p><p class="indent">The concert will continue with “The Golden Harp” composed Gwyneth Walker which also faetures the poetry of Tagore. In addition to its eight movements, “The Golden Harp” will include six narrated passages to introduce each new section recited by Retired Judge Ward Fontenot.</p><p class="indent">“Luminous Night of the Soul” will be presented as the third selection for the evening. Written by Swedish composer Ola Gejeilo, Jones said Gjeilo’s works are growing in popularity within the world of chorale music.</p><p class="indent">Both “Luminous Night of the Soul” and the “The Golden Harp” will be accompanied with a violin quartet including Sarah Cullen, violin, Christy Clark, violin, Audra Gruspier, viola, and Thomas Schroeder, cello.</p><p class="indent">The concert with close with selections from the Broadway musical “Wicked.” “I’m excited about all of them…I think there’s something for everyone on this concert.</p><p class="indent">Tickets are $15 and are available at the door or in advance at Swicegood Music.
