CertainTeed’s resin plant closes doors

CertainTeed’s resin manufacturing plant in Westlake closed Wednesday after more than 40 years of operation, company officials said in a statement.

The plant has more than 50 employees, who retain active status through March, 2, 2019.

Lisa Miree-Luke, CertainTeed manager of internal and human resources communications, said high market competition was the main reason the plant was closed.

“Long-term raw material supply options were no longer economically viable to allow Lake Charles to continue to supply resin to our plants,” she said.

Miree-Luke said the company is “offering outplacement support and severance packages for all affected employees to help bridge the gap to new employment.” They can also “pursue open positions in the CertainTeed and Saint-Gobain network,” she said.

Closure of the manufacturing plant will not impact siding, fence, deck and rail customers, she said. Other PVC resin suppliers have been identified to service these plants in the future.””Plant Closing graphic
