McNeese State student exhibition shows off creative outlet for young artists
A multi-disciplinary display of student art is now on display in the first-floor lobby of Lake Charles City Hall at 326 Pujo St.
The exhibit features 16 pieces by six students in the McNeese State Student Art Association. Lake Charles Director of Cultural Affairs Payton Dodds said the exhibition is a showcase of diversity and collaboration.
The exhibition will be on display until March 28.
She said the pieces explore the styles of abstractionism, semi-realism and text art and several mediums like photolithography, graphite, pencil color, oil, and ink and charcoal.
Platforming young artists’ work helps to nurture the next generation of creative voices by giving them an avenue to gain professional experience and connect with the community, she said.
“These opportunities build confidence, encourage professional growth and validate their hard work and vision,” Dodds said. “By showcasing student art, we’re not only supporting emerging talent but also inspiring others and reinforcing the importance of the arts in shaping our culture and future.”
Lake Charles Mayor Nic Hunter echoed Dodds in a news release.
“This exhibit not only celebrates their hard work and talent but also underscores the importance of providing a platform for emerging artists to share their voices,” he said.
The exhibition is the next installment in the City of Lake Charles’ mission to curate quarterly exhibits in partnership with local organizations and institutions. Dodds said collaboration with groups like the McNeese Student Art Association creates opportunities to highlight the diverse talents and perspectives, “strengthening connections between the City and its residents.”
“These partnerships highlight the richness of our local culture and allow us to support and celebrate creativity at all levels, ensuring the arts remain a vital part of our community’s identity.”
