Annual Labor Day Festival returns to Iowa with plenty of hot, fresh zydeco

The 34th annual Boozoo Labor Day Festival, with a lively musical line-up that promises to entertain those of all ages and musical tastes, will get under way at 10 a.m. Monday at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Iowa, La.

Musical offerings will center around the sounds of zydeco in a nod to the late Boozoo Chavis, an accordion player and pioneer of zydeco music.

The music will kick off at 11 a.m. and will include Geno Delafose, Mason Trail, Rosie Ledet, Chris Ardoin, Keith Frank, Step Rideau and Poncho Chavis.

Festival organizers, who said the event is always wellattended, said they will be serving up “hot creole food and ice cold drinks” for purchase at the event.

Fare will include red beans and rice, pork steak sandwiches and crawfish etoufee.

Presented by the Chavis family, this year’s festival has the theme of “Keeping the Tradition Alive.”

Admission is $20 per person and free for those 10 and under.

Festival organizers said “early arrivals” are encouraged.

No ice chests or outside food or drink will be allowed in the building.
