LSU to be visiting team in Game 2

BATON ROUGE — LSU will be the visiting team for tonight’s Game 2 of its super regional series with Mississippi State.

If there is a deciding third game Monday, the Tigers will be the home team again.

That’s a change from recent years when the third game would have been a coin flip to decide.

Also, LSU does get to use its usual home dugout for the entire weekend.

FAMILIAR FOE: This is LSU’s 13th super regional since the format began in 1999, and only the second time the Tigers have played a fellow Southeastern Conference team.

The only other time was that first year of 1999 when the Tigers traveled to Tuscaloosa to take on Alabama.

Alabama swept that series in two games.

STREAKING: LSU went into Saturday’s first game on a 14-game win streak during which its pitching staff had a 2.07 ERA. The Tigers were hitting .307 in that span.

EARLY BIRDS: Two teams had already clinched trips to Omaha, Nebraska, for the College World Series before LSU and Mississippi State finished the first inning of their first game.

Texas A&M beat Davidson to complete a sweep of its series, as did Louisville in its series over Kentucky.

BIG INNING: LSU has scored its most runs this season in the fifth innings with 68 in 64 games. The next biggest inning has been the sixth, with 60.
