Off-duty trooper from LC charged with battery at LSU game

An off-duty Louisiana State Police trooper has been charged with battery following an altercation at the LSU-UCLA game.

Captain Nick Manale said during the game, law enforcement personnel responded to a disturbance in the stands and discovered that a physical altercation occurred between the off-duty trooper and two male subjects.

“Further investigation revealed that the off-duty Trooper, identified as 30-year-old Artellus Bellard of Lake Charles, initiated the physical battery following a verbal argument,” Manale said.

Bellard, assigned to Troop D Patrol since 2021, was charged with two counts of simple battery and released on a summons with a pending court date.

No further information is available at this time, pending the completion of the criminal and administrative process, Manale said.
