Authorities seek to ID victim
Authorities on Tuesday released a composite of a woman in hopes that it might lead to the identity of a victim in connection with a head found in March in Cameron.
A decomposed head, which was in a plastic bag, was found by a road-cleanup crew on La. 27 in the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge in Cameron — the same area where the body of a Texas woman, Christie Lynn Combs, was found in 2016.
Cameron Parish Coroner Susan Dupont during a press conference on Tuesday, revealed the composite of a woman who the FACES lab at LSU has determined was between the ages of 30-50, was white or Hispanic, and had medium-length brown hair.
“We’re hoping someone will recognize this individual and get in touch with us,” Dupont said. “This facial reconstruction is really good and looks almost like a photo.”
Authorities believe the woman’s death occurred approximately one to six weeks prior to the discovery of her remains.
Dupont and Cameron Parish Sheriff Ron Johnson said the victim’s remains did not match any in the Combined DNA Index System, known as CODIS, but they said the information would remain in the system in the event a match is made in the future.
Johnson said the woman’s DNA has also been sent to a genealogy lab.
“From that, what we hope to achieve is the family of the victim, maybe even the location of that victim’s family,” Johnson said.
Johnson said authorities do not know if the two deaths (Combs and this victim) are connected, although he said, “it has definitely crossed our mind. Especially since both were found in the same area.”
He said others assisting in the investigation have included the Louisiana State Police, Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office, and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Johnson said anyone who might have any information, should call the Cameron Parish Coroner’s Office, 337-499-5766; the Cameron Parish Sheriff’s Office, 337-775-5111, or the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office, 337-477-7537.
He said the composite is being sent to a five-state area and that investigators have also continued to be in touch with law enforcement in Houston because an unidentified female victim had also been found there recently and the entities are looking into whether the two cases could be related.
