Sulphur woman dies of injuries sustained in car crash

A 36-year-old Sulphur woman has died from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle Monday night crash near Edgerly Cutoff.

Louisiana State Police Trooper First Class Derek Senegal said the crash claimed the life of Brittany Lynn Slusher.

Senegal said the initial investigation revealed a 2008 BMW 528 Sedan, driven by Slusher, was traveling west on US 90. For reasons unknown, Slusher lost control of the vehicle, traveled off the roadway, and struck a tree.

Slusher, who was properly restrained, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Lake Charles area hospital for treatment. Later that evening, Troop D was notified that Slusher had succumbed to her injuries. This crash remains under investigation.

Troop D has investigated 19 fatal crashes resulting in 21 deaths in 2023.
