Boil advisory issued for Vinton residents

The town of Vinton Water System has experienced a chlorination equipment failure and is unable to maintain adequate chlorine residual. Because of these problems, the water produced by the water supply system is of questionable microbiological quality.

As a precaution, the town has issued a boil advisory. It is recommended that all consumers disinfect their water before consuming it — including making ice, brushing teeth, or using it for food preparation — by boiling water for one full minute in a clean container. The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle, pouring it from one clean container to another, or by adding a small pinch of salt to each quart of water that is boiled.

Any other information call Vinton City Hall 337-589-7453; after hours contact Vinton Police 337-589-3561.
