A 4-year-old boy was fatally struck by a mail truck Thursday night while riding his scooter near the dead end of Joan Street.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to multiple calls made regarding the incident.

According to CPSO, the driver alerted neighbors of the incident. There were no other witnesses.

CPSO stated the initial investigation found that the driver of the mail truck was attempting to turn around at a residence when it struck the boy.

After being transported to a local hospital, the boy died from his injuries.

“This is a heartbreaking and tragic situation for everyone involved,” said Sheriff Tony Mancuso.

It is not suspected that the driver was impaired, but a toxicology report will be conducted as mandated by state law.

The mail carrier remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with the investigation. Currently, no charges have been filed.
