Unrestrained LC driver killed in Vinton crash
An unrestrained driver was killed in a single-vehicle crash Saturday morning on Interstate 10 in Vinton.
Louisiana State Police Trooper First Class Ross Brennan said the crash claimed the life of 56-year-old Duane Spearance of Lake Charles.
Brennan said the preliminary investigation revealed Spearance was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer west on I- 10 in the right lane when his vehicle experienced a rear tire failure. The Chevrolet then traveled off the roadway to the right before overturning multiple times.
Spearance was not restrained at the time of the crash, ejected from the vehicle, and suffered fatal injuries. A passenger in the Chevrolet was properly restrained, suffered moderate injuries, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
A standard toxicology sample was collected from Spearance and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Brennan said Troop D has investigated three fatal crashes resulting in three fatalities in 2023.
