JENNINGS — Hundreds of juniors and seniors from throughout Jeff Davis Parish had an opportunity Monday to explore college, career and military opportunities during the annual College and Career Fair.

Students were able to speak directly to college and military recruiters about future career paths and opportunities that are available to them post high school graduation, Lake Arthur High School counselor Sabrina Zaunbrecher said.

“This is a chance for them to see what is available,” Jennings High School counselor Cathy Smith said. “I hope they get some motivation to look into a future career or go to some type of post-secondary training or career so they can better prepare for the future.”

Elyse Duhon, a senior at Jennings High School, was among the students exploring their next step after high school.

“I’m hoping to find an outlet and what I need to do after school,” Duhon said. “I want to see what all the state has to offer.”

Duhon is hoping to pursue a future career in business marketing.

Zena Forestier, a senior at Hathaway High School, said the College and Career Fair is a great opportunity to help students prepare for their lives after high school.

Though Forestier already plans to attend the University of Louisiana-Monroe, she said the fair gave her an opportunity to look around.

“I want to see what they have to offer and explore what the possibilities are,” she said.

Jessica Vines, a senior at Welsh High School, wants to be a game warden or enlist in the Army but was excited to see all the options available.

“I’m looking for more information on what colleges I can go to and what my options are,” Vines said.

Vines said the College and Career Fair helps students decide whether to go to college, work or pursue other  possibilities in their future.

Those attending the fair were also able to learn more about programs, financial aid, classes and school culture. The Jeff Davis Parish Registrar of Voters Office was also available to register students to vote.
