Sulphur Police investigate vehicle-train accident

News Release

SULPHUR — According to Chief of Police Lewis Coats, on Monday, October 1, 2018, at approximately 5:30 PM, Sulphur Police Department received a call of a vehicle train crash at N. Crocker Street and West Verdine Street crossing. 

Initial investigation revealed that Grant Marshall Ozment, age 22 of Webster, Texas was traveling north failed to yield to a west bound Union Pacific Train. 

Ozment was transported to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital by Acadian Ambulance with major injuries and later transferred to Lafayette General. 

At last check, Ozment was in critical but stable condition.

The investigation is still ongoing by Officer AJ Powell, the department’s traffic accident reconstructionist.  Ozment’s phone was located at the scene with a map application open indicating he may have been distracted by his mobile phone at the time of the crash.
