Spanish composer José Galeote to present free lecture-recital
Special to the American Press
The McNeese State University W.A. and Dorothy Hanna Department of Performing Arts will present a free lecture-recital featuring Spanish composer José Galeote at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, in Tritico Theatre.
Galeote will present a lecture introducing two newly composed pieces for guitar and piano — both pieces dedicated to Lina Morita, professor of piano at McNeese, and to Jay Kacherski, assistant professor of guitar at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas, and former faculty member at McNeese. The composer will talk about the inspiration and compositional techniques used in each piece with examples performed by Morita and Kacherski. This will be followed by the world premiere performance of the works.
As a composer, Galeote has received several commissions including the Salzburg Guitar Trio (Germany), the Duo Villa-Lobos (Colombia) and the Festival y Certamen Internacional Llobet, the Orquesta de Guitarras and the Orquesta de la Música (all in Spain). His music is characterized by a strong polyphonic character as well as a marked taste for colour as an expressive tool and is frequently performed by soloists, ensembles, chamber music groups and choral groups in Europe and America.
He has been a guitar and chamber music teacher for more than 18 years and is a guitar teacher at the professional Spanish conservatory of La Creu Alta, as well as being a guitar teacher and chamber music teacher at the Escuelas Pías in Sabadell. He has also been artistic coordinator of the Llobet composition competition since 2020, as well as secretary of the Llobet performance competition.
