Tournament of the Stars hosting ‘Black and White Masquerade’

Tournament of the Stars will host its fourth annual Black and White Masquerade New Year’s Eve ball 8 p.m.-1 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, at the Charleston Hotel, 900 Ryan St. Featuring live music by Jarvis Jacobs and the Southern Gents and hits from DJ Big Tyma, the ball will be a “classy adult affair” said Harold McReynolds, Tournament of the Stars founder and president.

The event will be a unique option to the Lake Charles New Year’s Eve scene, he said. “It’s not a club. It’s not a casino,” McReynolds said. “It’s a luxurious space that is both comfortable and cozy.”

Partygoers looking to enjoy the evening without the bustle of large crowds will be pleased with the accommodations provided by the Charleston Hotel, he said. “It’s a beautiful setting where you can enjoy the fun of the masquerade and still be personable,” he said.

The attire is black and white, and the menu will include an assortment of foods, including jambalaya and Mardi Gras king cake. Party favors, Moscato and nonalcoholic beverages will be available at tables for guests to toast the new year. Guests can order additional drinks at the cash bar. The ball has also partnered with a local taxi service to provide free rides for those in need.

Tournament of Stars is a nonprofit organization that hosts sporting events to raise scholarship funds for high school seniors. Like its basketball and golf tournaments, proceeds from the ball will benefit in-need students looking to advance their education through post-secondary vocational training, community college or a four-year university, McReynolds said.

Black and White Masquerade ball tickets are $40 per person, $75 for couples and $275 for a table.
