We’re talking about the best games on tap
In this edition of the Three Point Stance, Warren Arceneaux and Rodrick Anderson discuss the high school football jamborees taking place over the next two days.
What is the most interesting game in today’s Lake Area Jamboree?
WA: Jennings vs. Sam Houston. We get a first look at the new-look Broncos under first-time head coach Chad Paulk, who ran a prolific offense at Barbe as offensive coordinator. Jennings has an experienced defense led by an outstanding secondary featuring Bryce Anthony, Keauntee Riggs, Davian Madden and Michael Bryant.
RA: Westlake vs. DeRidder. While it might not look like much of a match up between a pair of teams that combined for just four wins last year, it will be a great match up because both teams will be fighting for momentum going into the regular season next week. Westlake has a senior-laden offensive line and two strong running backs in Brevan Ned and Joseph January, but DeRidder has three returning offensive linemen in Xavier McCauley, Dewaun Tellis and Cameron Davis and college prospect Nick Sanders at linebacker.
What is the best game at another jamboree?
WA: Lake Charles College Prep vs. Elton at the Grand Lake Jamboree. The former district opponents played an excellent game last season with Elton winning 38-31. Both teams bring back most of their key players from last season.
RA: The Johnny Cryer Bowl at Vernon Parish Jamboree. Cryer was the head coach at Pickering last year but now he will lead his new school, Rosepine, against his former team.
What is the best matchup of opposing offensive/defensive units?
WA: Welsh has a deep group of receivers back, led by Da’ren Zeno. They will face Washington-Marion, which has a deep and experienced secondary led by Gerron Duhon.
RA: East Beauregard has an experienced defensive line with Devin Baumery, Gary Ramsey and Kade Morvant returning, but the Trojans will have a stiff test trying to contain the Lions’ ground game, led by Trevon Tillman and Division I prospect Tony St. Julien.
