‘Price is Right’ will feature LC resident

‘Homegrown’ episode airs Oct. 3 on CBS

Freda Stokes got the surprise of her lifetime when her name was called to “Come on down” during an August taping of “The Price is Right.”

Stokes travelled with her husband and friends to California for summer vacation and was excited to cross “The Price is Right” off of her bucket list.

Laughing, Stokes recounted wearing a T-shirt designed to read, “Say my name, say my name” but she didn’t actually hear her name called due to the excitement of the audience.

It wasn’t until her companion saw her name written on poster board, running in the hands of a producer, that the group began “jumping and jumping until it was time to run on down to contestant’s row.”

While Stokes was unable to disclose the full details of her episode, scheduled to air Oct. 3, she said she was very surprised by how different the live experience was from the at-home viewing experience.

“The Price is Right’s” audience seats 300 contestants and only nine are selected to compete.

Stokes was required to show her identification on multiple occasions and went through several interviewlike processes throughout the experiences which took more than four hours before taping began. While waiting, the group was photographed and asked to pose demonstrating how they would behave if they won one million dollars.

Stokes described the set as “confined and not as big as it seems” on television. And she was also amazed by the number of off-screen crew members it takes to run the show.

“I was surprised to watch how they go from one game to another. They tell you when to clap, when to stand. It’s cue cards. There’s a lot of people on stage that you don’t see and there are cameras all over the place!”

Describing meeting host of the show Drew Carey, Stokes said, “He’s amazing. He’s funny and let me tell you, all in between commercials he intertwines with the audience. He talks with everybody!

This “homegrown” episode of “The Price is Right” will air at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct 3, on CBS Lake Charles KSWL channel 17.

””

Freda Stokes and her husband, Eddie, wore matching T-shirts while on the set of “The Price is Right’ in California during an August taping of the popular game show.
