Food pantry in Ragley

RAGLEY — Fearless Missions will host its annual “Thanksgiving Food Pantry and Feast” for needy families today and Thursday at the South Beauregard Community Center, 6719 La. 12 in Ragley.

From 10 a.m.-7 p.m. today, the community center will be set up like a grocery store. Customers can shop for a variety of items to complete their holiday meal. The Thanksgiving Feast is scheduled for 11 a.m.-1 p.m., with Fearless Missions providing 100 hot meals. Delivery options are available for elderly or shut-ins.

Hali Navarre, Fearless Missions member, said the group started the event to help fill the gap for working families who may not be eligible for other forms of financial assistance.

“Ultimately, at the end of the day, everybody is not going to meet the criteria to get food stamps or WIC or some kind of assistance,” she said. “Some of the people we see are working people that just don’t have $10 just to buy a turkey.”

Operating as a grocery store instead of distributing pre-packaged bags helps the organization minimize waste, with people choosing only the foods they know will be eaten by their families.

Navarre said the group focuses on missions opportunities within the local community.

“Ultimately our goal was to take care of our community, our neighbors, our school kids, our people right here in Ragley and Longville, and I’m glad we can help others too,” she said.
