Decadent O’Charley’s dessert should be on everyone’s bucket list

I will get right down to the highlight of my Saturday evening meal at O’Charley’s: It was the Brownie Lover’s Brownie we had for dessert.

The O’Charley’s Brownie Lover’s Brownie should be on everyone’s bucket list. It simply must be tried at least once. Yes, it’s 1,650 calories — but don’t let that stop you. You can share it with someone and cut the guilt in half, or in thirds if you have three people. Which is what we had Saturday night. Any remaining guilt will be worth it.

The Brownie Lover’s Brownie is a decadent, velvety-smooth, fudge-like bit of awesomeness, filled with toffee morsels, that is served up warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. What’s not to love about that? The whole thing is drizzled with chocolate and caramel sauces.

Taking a bite of the warm brownie and the cold ice cream together is just heavenly. It is big. The brownie base is roughly the size of four normal brownies.

You don’t even have to be hungry to appreciate it. I was stuffed after enjoying a delicious meal with pals Laura and Pamela as we celebrated Pamela’s birthday.

For $12.99, I had the Grilled Salmon Bowl, which was salmon served over a bed of orzo pasta sauteed with kale, quinoa, carrots, onion and garlic in a roasted red pepper and tomato sauce. It was wonderful and I did not need or want anything more.

But even after I had the delicious salmon and Laura had an entree of Peach Chutney Chicken and Pamela enjoyed the Santa Fe Tilapia, Laura insisted that a dessert was in order to celebrate Pamela’s birthday, so that is how we came to order the giant slab of brownie heaven for $5.99.

Our waitress, Kanisha Chavis, was happy to accommodate us. By the way, if you go to O’Charley’s and see a food server who looks like a younger version of actress Octavia Spencer, that would be Kanisha. Laura saw the resemblance as soon as Kanisha greeted us at our table, and Kanisha said people comment on her resemblance to the Academy Award-winning actress all the time. If the restaurant world gave Academy Awards for best food server, we all agreed we would nominate Kanisha because she was excellent.

The Brownie Lover’s Brownie was the perfect ending to our meal. Digging into it was an experience unto itself.

So in review, there are two things to take away here if you go to O’Charley’s at 1780 W. East Prien Lake Road: 1. Try to get seated in Kanisha’s area and 2. Try the Brownie Lover’s Brownie. It won’t disappoint.
