‘Anything on wheels, we judge’

Glad Tidings Church will host is fifth annual Car and Truck Show on Saturday, April 20. A free, family-friendly event, over 100 awards will be given for entries in the contest.

Entrants will compete for plaques and bragging rights in categories including best paint, best interior, best motor, “People Choice” and more, Jimmy Fontenot, show coordinator said. “Motorcycles, Jeeps, new or old car and trucks just anything that’s on wheels, we judge.”

Featuring pony rides, face painting, train rides, pirates and more, he said, “It’s not just a car show. It’s a big show. It’s like a festival, really.” The show will also include live music by the Roger and James Car Show Band with special appearances by “Elvis” and “Burt Reynolds.”

“They’re going to shoot the bull and throw out some t-shirts. It’s going to be a real good time for everybody.”

Guests will also enjoy free food throughout the day including Louisiana favorites like red beans, gumbo and Jambalaya. Tents and chairs will be provided to keep guests cool along with ice cream and snow cones, Fontenot added.

Veterans in attendance can enter for a chance to win a motorized scooter and must be present to win. An auction will also be held with all proceeds benefitting veterans.

“We always try to help the veterans. They deserve it. We build ramps, steps, that sort of thing. That’s really how we got started and keep growing,” he said.

Registration is free and begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday at Glad Tidings Church. Awards will begin at 2 p.m. with the day ending at 3:30 p.m. For more information call, 304-1337.
