Calcasieu Pass LNG facility receives green light

TransCameron Pipeline project also gains approval

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has approved the Venture Global LNG export facility in Calcasieu Pass, along with the TransCameron Pipeline, officials announced on Friday.

Bob Pender and Mike Sabel, co-CEOs of Venture Global, said in a news release that they plan to start construction “immediately” and anticipate delivering “low-cost” liquefied natural gas to customers worldwide by 2022.

“This milestone is the culmination of years of effort, and we are proud of the excellent work done by our regulatory, environmental, legal and engineering teams,” the two said.

FERC issued the final environmental impact statement for the Venture Global facility last October. The facility will be built on a 1,000-acre site at the intersection of the Calcasieu Ship Channel and the Gulf of Mexico. Once complete, it is expected to produce 10 million tons of LNG per year.

Pender and Sabel said there are “binding 20-year sale and purchase agreements” with companies such as Shell, BP, Edison S.p.A., Galp, Repsol and PGNiG.

Officials announced last December that Kiewit will be designing and building the export facility in Calcasieu Pass.

Venture Global is also planning a 20 mtpa LNG export facility in Plaquemines Parish. That project is expected to get its final environmental impact statement May 3, according to a notice of schedule for environmental review issued by FERC last August.
