Arrest made in fatal Pecan Acres Drive shooting

A 19-year-old man has been arrested in the Sept. 8 fatal shooting at a Pecan Acres Drive apartment complex.

Lake Charles Police Deputy Chief Kevin Kirkum said the shooting happened just after 5 p.m. in the 5000 block of Pecan Acres Drive. He said 19-year-old Braylion Williams and a 16-year-old juvenile were injured in the shooting.

Williams later died as a result of his injuries and the juvenile was hospitalized, Kirkum said.

“Detectives investigating the incident determined that Williams and 19-year-old Kareem Alexander Stafford Jr. went to the apartment complex and made contact with a resident of the complex,” Kirkum said. “A confrontation between the parties occurred which escalated to shots being fired.”

The juvenile was in the apartment at the time and was injured by gunfire. He has since been released from a local hospital.

On Monday, SWAT Officers arrested Stafford at the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Orchid Street without incident. He is charged with attempted armed robbery with a firearm and aggravated second-degree battery with a firearm. His bond has been set at $800,000.

Kirkum said the investigation is being submitted by LCPD to the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office for review in regards to the death of Braylon Williams.

Anyone with information can contact Lake Charles Police Department lead Detectives Sgt. Kevin Hoover or Sgt. Dustin Fontenot at 337- 491-1311.
