Which football team had the most impressive win?

WA: Lake Charles College Prep. The Trailblazers went on the road and pulled off a dramatic 28-26 overtime win over Jena to earn its first-ever semifinals appearance.

RA: Kinder hadn’t been to the semifinals since its last state title in 2015, but the Yellow Jackets overcame a low-scoring night and plenty of mistakes, including five turnovers, to stun No. 3 Loreauville 21-14 in double overtime.

Name a player of the week.

WA: Grand Lake’s Eli Fountain scored a pair of touchdown runs to lead the Hornets to a road win at Centerville in a Class 1A quarterfinal game.

RA: Lake Charles College Prep sophomore linebacker Daylon Sibley had the best game of his young career when the Trailblazers needed him most. Sibley recorded a career-high 17 tackles and two tackles for a loss as the Trailblazers held Jena to one score in the second half to win a quarterfinal game for the first time in program history.

Which area basketball team had the best week?

WA: The St. Louis girls went 4-0, including a sweep of three games at the Lake Arthur tournament highlighted by a one-point win over the host Tigers. The Saints also beat DeRidder, Iota and Natchitoches Central.

RA: LaGrange, the Class 4A girls defending state champion, beat a defending state champ for the third time this season on Friday with a dominant 57-37 win over two-time defending Division II champion Liberty. The Gators also beat Class 5A quarterfinalist Sulphur 55-33 on Tuesday.Lake Charles College Prep’s Darius Washington tackles Jena running back Brandon Williams during a Class 3A quarterfinal game on Dec. 11 at Jena High School.
