‘Killer’ cast to bring ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’ to life

Mark your calendar now to see the Artists Civic Theatre & Studio production of “Arsenic and Old Lace” in October and “A Christmas Story” in December, perfect selections for celebrating the season. ACTS, now in its 52nd season, will present “Arsenic and Old Lace” Friday and Saturday Oct. 12, 13, 19 and 20 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 14 and 21 at 3 p.m.

“In this play, we meet the charming and innocent ladies who populate their cellar with the remains of socially and religiously acceptable roomers,” said Kris Webster, ACTS current board president. “It’s a good, classic dark comedy that appeals to many people.”

The Brewsters seem normal — at first — with the exception of Teddy Brewster who thinks he’s Teddy Roosevelt, and who would ever suspect his dear aunts? The audience discovers the truth, along with their nephew, Mortimer, the lead character.

“The story is still funny, almost 80 years after it was written,” Webster said.

Director is Clay Hebert. Louis Barrilleaux will play Mortimer. Sarah Broussard and Kelly Rowland are cast as his aunts. Other actors are Matt Dye, Aaron Webster, Rebecca Harris, Mark Herbert, Bob Goodson, Dylan Conley, Dustin Duffy, Brahnsen Lopez and Kathy Heath

“A Christmas Story,” the Christmas classic in which Ralphie Parker dreams of a Red Ryder air rifle, will be directed by Walt Kiser. Read for a part Oct. 15 and 16. See it on stage Dec. 7-16 at One Reid Street in Lake Charles. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students.

ACTS will conclude the season with “The Giver” and “Mamma Mia!” “The Giver” is adapted from the Newbery Award-winning book by Lois Lowry and introduces the audience to the seemingly perfect and safe world of Jonas, which is without war, fear, pain or emotional depth of any kind. In “Mamma Mia!” ABBA’s hits tell the hilarious story of a young woman’s search for her birth father. This sunny and funny tale unfolds on a Greek island paradise. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago. (Ticket pricing changes for musicals.)
