Singer man admits robbing bank

<p class="p1"><span class="s1">A 56-year-old Singer man pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court to robbing a DeQuincy bank of nearly $16,000, said U.S. Attorney David C. Joseph.</span></p><p class="p2">Gordon Scott Cooper entered the bank with an air-powered BB gun that looked like an automatic pistol and stole $15,999 from two teller drawers, Joseph said.</p><p class="p2">Police later learned that a maroon Honda Pilot had been seen in the area before the robbery and that the driver had been seen acting suspiciously, he said.</p><p class="p2">Police later found BBs and a CO2 cartridge for the air pistol in the possession of Cooper’s nephew, Chad Allen Cooper, 39, of Singer, Joseph said.</p><p class="p2">Chad Cooper admitted helping in the robbery and told officers how to find his uncle. </p><p class="p2">At Gordon Cooper’s residence, police found the Honda Pilot, money, and a pair of tennis shoes that Gordon Cooper identified as the ones worn in the robbery, Joseph said.</p><p class="p2">Gordon Cooper faces up to 25 years in prison. Chad Cooper pleaded guilty June 5 to one count of bank robbery and also faces up to 25 years in prison. Sentencing for both men will be Oct. 1.</p>
